Kışladağ wins 2026 TSM Environmental Excellence Award
We are proud to share that Tüprag's Kışladağ Gold Mine in Türkiye has been named the winner of the 2026 Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) Environmental Excellence Award, presented by the Mining Association of Canada at the CIM Awards Gala in Vancouver on May 4.
The award recognizes a solar-powered water access project at the Kışladağ mine, completed in December 2025, which saw photovoltaic systems installed at water wells serving six villages near the mine: Gümüşkol, Katrancılar, Söğütlü, Küçükilyaslı, Gedikler, and Karacaömerli. The 125 kW of installed solar capacity provides clean, uninterrupted energy to water infrastructure serving more than 1,000 residents across more than 350 households, while eliminating the electricity costs those communities previously bore for water pumping.
Working closely with local village leaders (muhtars) and community stakeholders, the team designed each system around the specific needs of the village — factoring in population, number of water subscribers, and actual usage. Tüprag has supported water access in these communities since the early years of the mine's operation, and this project builds on that foundation: addressing today's challenges through cleaner, more sustainable means. The community-centred approach was central to what the project achieved: a lasting infrastructure improvement shaped by the people it was built to serve.
The TSM Environmental Excellence Award is assessed on innovation, replicability, community involvement and measurable impact. The Kışladağ project was recognized for extending Eldorado's renewable energy investments beyond mine operations into rural community infrastructure. It's a model with real potential for replication across the mining sector.
This award is a testament to the standard our teams consistently bring to their work — combining technical excellence with a genuine commitment to supporting the development goals of our host communities.
Towards Sustainable Mining, operated by the Mining Association of Canada, is a globally recognized sustainability program that helps mining companies evaluate and improve their social and environmental performance.
