Electrification at Eldorado Gold Québec
The introduction of this electric truck is part of Eldorado Gold Québec’s progressive fleet electrification strategy and also supports transportation electrification efforts on the Sigma-Lamaque underground ramp. As the first mining company in Québec to adopt this technology, Eldorado Gold Québec worked closely with Sandvik to implement these state-of-the-art electric trucks.
“We are pleased to be able to begin electrifying our underground operations with the arrival of this electric truck, which will bring us several benefits, particularly in terms of mitigating our GHG emissions, but also improving certain aspects of the health and safety of our employees,” said Sylvain Lehoux, VP & Country Manager, Canada. “We are all looking forward to seeing this technology in action and actively pursuing our efforts towards decarbonizing our operations."
Although Lamaque is already recognized as one of the lowest GHG emitting gold mines in the world, thanks in large part to access to hydroelectricity and the implementation of energy efficiency projects, it is estimated that full operationalization of this electric truck will mitigate an estimated 1,700 tCO2e per year. In addition, this transition to electric trucks will improve the health and safety of workers by improving air quality and reducing noise. Eldorado Gold Québec remains committed to continuing its efforts to constantly improve its environmental practices and contribute to the energy transition.
