Celebrating UN International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

This August 9, we’re celebrating the United Nations International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. This year’s theme recognizes the importance of Indigenous youth in self-determination and their “dedicated efforts in climate action, the search for justice for their people, and the creation of an intergenerational connection that keeps their culture, traditions and contributions alive.”

Indigenous Peoples, including First Nations in Canada, are often impacted by mining. At Eldorado, we are committed to meaningfully consult First Nations communities and provide equitable access to employment, training and educational opportunities.

In Quebec, our team at the Lamaque operations works with local First Nations, contractors and educational institutions to provide training and employment opportunities to Indigenous Peoples.

In 2022, we worked with the Nation Anishnabe du Lac Simon and the community of Kitcisakik and together committed to develop an agreement that will promote business development, improve access to employment, address community concerns and provide socio-economic support to communities.

Through our community investments in the region, we’ve also helped promote and coordinate integrated water management with Organisme de Bassin Versant Abitibi-Jamésie, supported youth education and health through our partnership with the Nation Anishnabe du Lac Simon and the community of Kitcisakik, and invested in better local institutional healthcare with the Fondation du Centre hospitalier de Val-d’Or.

We continue to strengthen our relationships with First Nations communities near our Lamaque operations and are committed to the relationships we have built.
