Eldorado Gold Supports BC Cancer Foundation’s Leap Forward in Cancer Care

Eldorado Gold is proud to announce a $100,000 gift over two years in support of the BC Cancer Foundation’s Technology Transformation campaign, a multi-million initiative to bring cutting-edge diagnostic and imaging technology to BC Cancer – Vancouver, transforming cancer care for patients across British Columbia.

This campaign is already driving meaningful change. BC Cancer – Vancouver has installed Canada’s first Photon Counting CT scanner, capable of performing more than 14,000 scans each year. The scanner uses advanced photon-counting technology to produce highly detailed images with less radiation, allowing clinicians to detect smaller lesions and make more accurate diagnoses.

A first-in-Canada Next Generation PET/CT scanner is also now operational at BC Cancer – Vancouver. Capable of scanning the entire body in just two minutes – compared to the previous 40-minute standard – this upgrade is especially important for BC Cancer – Vancouver, which operates the busiest PET/CT imaging program in Canada, serving 70 patients every day.

Another major advancement coming soon is a Contrast Enhanced Mammography (CEM) unit. This new technology improves breast cancer detection, particularly for people with dense breast tissue. It also provides an alternative to an MRI for high-risk patients, supports monitoring during treatment, and increases capacity for breast imaging across B.C.

With faster scans, lower radiation exposure, and greater diagnostic precision, these technologies will improve comfort, expand access, and accelerate the path from diagnosis to treatment.
