Over $55,000 raised in support of youth experiencing homelessness
This Giving Tuesday, we are reminded of the stark reality for many experiencing homelessness. In Metro Vancouver, there are between 500-1000 young people without a safe place to sleep on any given night – many of whom turn to Covenant House for shelter, food, clean clothing and other essentials. We’ve been proud to support Covenant House Vancouver for the last six years, with a member of our executive team joining Executive Sleep Out. For a third consecutive year, Simon Hille, Executive Vice President, Technical Services & Operations, joined 36 other participants with only a sleeping bag and layers of clothing to protect themselves from the elements.
With the support of our Eldorado team, Simon raised $55,670 for Covenant House this year. Over the last three years alone, we have raised nearly $150,000 through his fundraising efforts. Altogether, the Sleep Out participants raised over $1 million in critical funds and awareness for youth experiencing homelessness and for the essential services, hot meals, and warm beds that Covenant House provides young people.
The annual event ensures that Covenant House can continue to provide care 24/7, 365 days a year. Through Covenant House, youth can receive:
- Medical attention
- Nutritious food and hydration
- A safe place to sleep
- Clothing and hygiene supplies
- Employment and education support
- Access to registered clinical counsellors and social workers
- Support transitioning to independent living, when ready
