Promoting a More Equitable Recruitment Process

Eldorado Gold is committed to being inclusive of diversity – meaning diverse people, thinking and ideas. We aim to recruit, hire, and promote as a meritocracy – selecting people based on their abilities. We also recognize that unconscious bias is part of being human, which can sometimes compromise this goal; for that reason, we reduce bias within our recruitment process where we can. Our approach is designed to make equitable recruiting decisions.

To reduce potential for bias, be efficient, and have a consistent, fair process, we use an innovative recruitment platform called Applied. Prospective candidates can elect to disclose diversity characteristics (such as age, gender, and ethnicity) that are only reported to us in aggregate. This helps us understand if we are tapping into a diverse candidate pool. Further, by reviewing applications in a blind, randomized fashion, we can increase fairness. Techniques like blinding applications, using structured interview guides and independently evaluating candidate answers help us reduce bias.¹

¹Occasionally, we also partner with third-party agencies to help us conduct searches and ask that they incorporate adjustments in the process similar to what is described above.
