Eldorado Gold Corp.

Overview

We are well respected for our commitment to responsible and sustainable development. In each community where we operate, we work closely with local residents. We have a proven record of implementing industry best practices to minimize environmental impacts while maximizing social and economic benefits. Eldorado Gold was the first company in October 2000 to receive a final full regulatory environmental release from the Mexican Government for the reclamation activities at La Trinidad gold mine. In Brazil, Turkey, and China, we are supporting local communities through many social and environmental initiatives.

Turkey

With one operating mine (Kişladağ, in Uşak) and a development project under construction (Efemçukuru, in Izmir), we have generated over 450 jobs in Turkey, besides having undertaken numerous initiatives to enhance the well-being of the neighbouring communities.

These initiatives include installing a water distribution system to the surrounding villages and settlements in Uşak, that is now delivering potable water to more than 1,000 local residents in nine villages for the first time.

Eldorado has also funded a mobile health clinic - a vehicle fully equipped with medical supplies that travels to local communities to provide an invaluable health resource for residents.

Our involvement also includes working with villagers and municipalities. In the last few years we have built a village house, repaired a mosque, paved and repaired roads, and provided equipment for safety, among others. Our plans in 2008 are to construct a new building at Uşak University and a sewage system.

We recognize the importance of sustainable development in the region - development that can thrive over the long term and address some of the social issues faced by the area's residents. Our work through the Kişladağ Mine Foundation advances sustainable social initiatives. In co-operation with the Canadian International Development Agency, a business plan has been developed that identifies initiatives that meet specific sustainable development criteria, including agriculture and training, and the Foundation has begun implementing some of the initiatives. Our financial commitment with the Foundation will total over US$2 million by 2010.

Near our Efemçukuru Project, we also have been developing programs to enhance education and training, infrastructure, community life, as well as economic programs. An example is our Vineyard Program that improved the productivity and is planned to produce over 80,000 bottles of wine.

China

Our Tanjianshan Mine in Qinghai began commercial production in Q1 2007.

Among our initiatives, we assisted financially to rebuild a school in Qinghai Province in 2007.

In 2008 our Tanjianshan Mine was one of the two organizations rewarded with the "Provincial Level Award for Environment Friendly Projects" by the Provincial Environmental Protection Bureau. It is a significant recognition by the government over the achievements we have been doing on Tanjianshan.

Brazil

The São Bento Mine ceased underground operations in Q1 2007. We have begun the reclamation activities and are conducting our activities to guarantee compliance with the environmental regulations.

São Bento has contributed to a better understanding of the ecosystem in the 630 hectares of undisturbed native forest at the mine site in Minas Gerais State. In a 2003, in a study funded by the mine and conducted by an environmental consulting team, 159 plant species from 49 different families and 94 species of bird and 19 species of mammals were identified. In 2004 São Bento received an Award of Excellence for the quality of the environmental management program (7th Prêmio de Excelência da Indústria Mineral e Metalúrgica Brasileira) from the Brazilian publication Minerios & Minerales.

In past decade the mine has played an active role in the social and environmental health of the region.
